Tibor Palankai is a Hungarian economist. He graduated from the Karl Marx University of Economic Sciences (now called Corvinus University of Budapest) in l960. He received his university doctorate in l96l, and Academy of Sciences Candidate of Economic Sciences in 1973. He was elected as a corresponding member of Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 1995, and as full member in 2004. He has been a full professor since 1982 and Emeritus Professor since 2008. Between 1983 and 1995, he was the head of the Department of World Economy. Since 1994 he is Jean Monnet Professor, and since 2007 a Jean Monnet Professor ad Personam. Between July 1997 and February 2000, he was the Rector of BUES. Today he is  Vice President of Section for Social Sciences at Hungarian Academy of Sciences. His main research topics include world economy, theory of international integration (measuring integration), Global and European integration. He has more than 500 publications, (10 books), many in foreign languages. He taught at the College of Europe in Bruges between 1993-2004 and other foreign universities. Since 2001, he is a member of the European University Council (at the European Commission), and an EU expert at the EU Commission, taking part in the evaluation of Jean Monnet and other projects since 1994. He has received several awards for teaching and research (Prize of the Hungarian Academy in 1994, and Order of Merit, given by the President of the Republic in 1998, Deák Ferenc Prize 1998, Kautz Gyula Prize 2008, Széchenyi Prize 2009). He has an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Pannonia (2010), and won the Jean Monnet Prize (2010) from the ECommission.
