Máté Tamás is pursuing his PhD at the Economic and Social History Doctoral Program of the Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest and he is a research assistant at the Institute for Minority Studies of the Centre for Social Sciences (Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Centre of Excellence). His main fields of professional interest are the cultural, economic, and social history of the Jewish population in Western Hungary in the 18th and 19th centuries. His research is focusing on the Lackenbachers, a prominent Jewish family, that not only played a key role in the local Jewish community of Nagykanizsa in the early 19th century but was also part of a transregional network of merchants. In this context, he is investigating kinship links, business connections, military purveyance, mobility, and acculturation.
