Cultural dynamics through the lens of distributional semantics
In the last decades, huge amount of text databases have become available, making it possible for the first time to identify quantitative laws of collective semantic changes. Assuming that statistical properties of language usage mirror cultural changes, we try to uncover generic rules that govern cultural dynamics, along with their application to specific historical events and their interactive visualization.
