Academic Visit of IASK Director, Prof. Ferenc Miszlivetz, to Albania and Kosovo: Strengthening EU-Western Balkan Partnerships

Tirana, Durrës (Albania), and Prishtina (Kosovo) | 5th–8th March 2025

In alignment with internationalization efforts and the advancement of institutional partnerships between the EU and the Western Balkans HEI, and with a special invitation by Aleksandër Moisiu University of Durrës, Prof. Ferenc Miszlivetz, Director of the Institute of Advanced Studies Kőszeg (IASK), conducted an academic tour across three universities from 5th to 8th March 2025. The visit, commenced at the University of Tirana (5th March), followed by engagements at Aleksandër Moisiu University in Durrës (6th March), and concluded at the University of Prishtina in Kosovo (7th March).

  1. University of Tirana (5th March 2025)


Prof. Miszlivetz inaugurated the series of academic engagements with a meeting with Prof. Assoc. Dr. Edvin Lame, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Discussions centered on fostering future academic collaborations between IASK and the Faculty of Social Sciences, culminating in the initiation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) framework.

  1. Aleksandër Moisiu University, Durrës (6th March 2025)


The second day featured a formal dialogue with Prof. Assoc. Dr. Linert Lirëza, Dean of Aleksandër Moisiu University, followed by the signing of an MoU to institutionalize bilateral cooperation. Prof. Miszlivetz subsequently delivered a public lecture titled “The Western Balkans and EU Integration in Light of Global Geopolitical Developments” to undergraduate and graduate students, faculty members of the Department of Political and Legal Sciences. Following the lecture, a guided tour was organized to the Venetian Fortress and the Durrës Amphitheatre, UNESCO-recognized landmarks reflecting the city’s rich historical heritage. The day concluded with a convivial lunch hosted along Durrës’s Adriatic coastline, fostering collegial dialogue amidst the historic and scenic setting.

The event was meticulously coordinated by Dr. Mirela Metushaj, esteemed faculty member of the department.

University of Prishtina, Kosovo (7th March 2025)


    The tour concluded with a public lecture at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Prishtina, attended by students, faculty, and researchers. Prof. Miszlivetz explored avenues for future academic synergies between IASK and the university, under the gracious coordination of Prof. Afrim Hoti, faculty member and event organizer.

    The visit was facilitated through the dedicated efforts of Dr. Elira Luli, IASK Fellow in Tirana, whose coordination with Dr. Metushaj and Prof. Hoti ensured the seamless execution of all engagements.
