Ákos Jakobi holds an MSc in Geography with regional and urban development speciality from the Eötvös Loránd University and an MSc in Geoinformatics from the University of West-Hungary. He obtained his PhD in Geography at Eötvös Loránd University in 2007 with the topic of traditional and new spatial differences in the information society, as well as he received his habilitation degree in 2016 with the topic of renewing spatial research of the information world in the era of big data. Currently, he is working as an assistant professor at Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest. His teaching and research activities cover the fields of regional science, geographical information science (GIS), information geographies, spatial big data analysis, spatial statistics and methods of spatial analysis.
City performance in cyber- and real space: tracing innovative city responses to the challenges of the information age competition in Europe
The research program aims at tracing innovative city responses to the challenges of the information age competition by evaluating examples of best practices referring to virtual or digital city solutions, with special regard to the increase of cyberspace performance and by integrating classic urban information society indicators and direct or indirect cyberspace measures (digital footprints) of European cities derived basically from big data sources. The research attempts to supplement the already existing, but sometimes insufficient ICT indices of cities with the cyber component, hence providing a more suitable measure to determine their competitiveness level. As a result of that the research will make it possible to compare the offline (real space) factors and online (cyberspace) motives of the city performance.
