Professor Michal Vasečka is a sociologist and lecturer at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Masaryk University in Brno. Michal Vasečka is the founder of the Centre for the Research of Ethnicity and Culture and was its Director from 2006 to 2012. From 2000 to 2008 and 2011 to 2012 he was a consultant at the World Bank. From 1999 to 2005, he was a researcher at the Institute of Public Affairs, a Slovak research center, and since 2000 he has been a program director at the Institute. Previously, he worked at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Comenius University in Bratislava, Academia Istropolitana, Open Society Foundation, InfoRoma Foundation and the Documentation Center for the Research of Slovak Society from 1991 to 1995. He has been a visiting scholar at the New School University in New York (1996-1997) and the University of London (1998). He taught at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. from 2008 to 2009 and at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 2015. Since 2007 he has been a research fellow at the Institute for the Study of Labor Bonn.
Since 2010, Professor Vasečka has been an external researcher at the European Centre for Minority Issues in Flensburg, and since 2014 a member of the Centre’s Advisory Board. Since 2012, he has been the representative of the Slovak Republic in the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance, a human rights body of the Council of Europe.
