The Bakony Social Innovation Project

2022-2023

The Bakony Social Innovation Project supported the development of cultural-artistic programs in the participating municipalities (Bakonynána, Borzavár, Jásd and Nagyesztergár), which are part of the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture (VEB2023 ECOC) Program, through research work. The fieldwork used the tool of ‘co-creation’, where multidisciplinary teams worked with local communities to strengthen the tourism of the settlements and the region.

Forecasting Primary Productivity in the Eastern Sahel region

Supported by the “EO AFRICA R&D Facility” program funded by the European Space Agency (In collaboration with the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa)

2022-2023

The project aimed to forecast primary productivity and climatic factors (soil moisture, precipitation etc.) using remote sensing techniques The project sought to develop an open-source interactive workflow to predict for 12 months ahead, considering the prevalence of subsistence livelihoods that largely rely on short-to-medium term preparations in the eastern Sahel region. The project also offered hands-on training for African stakeholders to handle African challenges by leveraging cutting-edge open-source EO algorithms. More information

Research and development of a self-learning multiplatform data stream processing, intelligent data visualization, prediction and alerting solution

In the framework of the GINOP-2.2.1-18 R&D Competitiveness and Excellence Cooperation Program, in consortium with Geomant-Algotech Zrt.

The result of the project is a cloud-based service in the field of real-time big data visualization, which uses artificial intelligence to analyze and consolidate data streams from different sources. An important part of the solution is a report editing interface that incorporates digital signage capabilities to provide the users with the visual creation of complex, modern reports.

2019-2023

The Institute of Advanced Studies Kőszeg was the lead partner coordinating the implementation of the project with the partnership of 9 institutions in 8 countries. The project objective was to improve policies supporting places unable to utilize their cultural legacies due to their disadvantaged locations. The project identified the most effective ways to support unique local sites with an innovative analysis toolkit, extensive knowledge sharing, and assisted interaction with local public and private stakeholders. The third year of the project was about the implementation of local/regional/national action plans.  More information

Action 1: A call for artistic work for students in the town was successfully implemented from February to June 2022. This strengthened the school town traditions of Kőszeg. More information

Action 2: ‘Cognitive Mapping, Examination of Mental Images with the participation of Kőszeg residents and in the Írottkő Nature Park through Experiments – Examination of the Shared Sense of Identity/Place’. More information

Action 3: “Kőszeg Walks”. Visitors and locals download the application to acquire historical and cultural information about the Chernel-family in the town of Kőszeg. More information

Development of Integrated Web-Based Land Decision Support System Aiming Towards the Implementation of Policies for Agriculture and Environment

The project aimed to develop a web-based spatial decision support system to support agricultural and environmental policy: to promote sustainable agriculture and forestry, evaluating trade-offs between land use alternatives, and support the development and implementation of European land-use policies.

The system developed provides land use planning information at multiple geographical scales and at multiple levels of the decision-making system, from local to EU level. More information and the system

The Works of Composer Sándor Kárpáti

The composer Sándor Kárpáti lived and worked at the beginning of the 20th century. As the first step of releasing his complete work, two string quartets were recorded and published   with the support of the Hungarian National Cultural Fund (NKA).

Stories from Keszthely

With the support of the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture program, the integrated cultural project “Talking Towns – Stories from Keszthely” was written with the collaboration of iASK researchers and Keszthely historians; a virtual tour of the main historical and tourist attractions of Keszthely was completed and three cultural events were organised.

Philip Schey Exhibition

The name of Philip Schey is often mentioned in connection with the renovation of the  synagogue in Kőszeg, but unfortunately very few people knew who he was or the significance of his works. iASK aims to raise awareness of Philip Schey’s role in town.  As a visual learning tool, the exhibition opened in August 2022, and is easy-to-use.

The Jewish Community of Körmend

As a result of this project, Edit Balázs, iASK researcher of Jewish Research Group, published a book entitled In the Footsteps of Pannonian Values: the Jewish Community of Körmend

A Hungarian-Austrian consortium, ErgonoCloud, developed a high-tech solution within the framework of the European Union’s CloudiFacturing innovation program. In 12 months, the consortium of iASK, ViveLab Ergo Kft., and Austrian In-Vision GmbH developed a technology to improve production ergonomy, increase the efficiency of work while contributing significantly to the health of employees.  This singular technology assists companies to improve the efficacy of their manufacturing processes and their working conditions. Exploring the Multi-dimensional Development Potential of the West Pannonia Region Based on Social Innovation

Through social innovation, an online depository of values was compiled in the West Pannonia Region based on the exploration of the multidimensional (cultural, economic and social) development potential of the Association of Pannon Cities. This depository is to be built through collaboration between municipalities, the University of Pannonia, and the business community. More information
